Hi everyone!
Just wanted to highlight the 5 reasons why I believe white privilege is NOT real. God I’m tired of these folk telling me I have privilege because I’m white.
Anyway it’s not real because:
- I worked, like, really hard for everything that I have. Just because I go to Stanford doesn’t mean I have privilege. I mean yeah my dad paid my tuition and paid for my dorm room, but I’m not privileged. That’s a stretch.
- The term “white privilege” is actually really racist. It’s like calling black people the N-word. How dare you.
- My white homie got sent to JAIL for raping a woman and leaving her behind a dumpster. He got a WHOLE 3 MONTHS. He got arrested I don’t know why you’re still saying white privilege is real.
- White oppression is real too.
- White privilege isn’t real it’s just a way for losers to blame their problems on other people.
See.
It’s not real.
Indo-Canadian guy passing through. While the satire here is commendable – your first point reflects privilege – but not necessary White privilege. Statistically speaking, parents of Asian or South Asian origin – per capita – are more likely to assist with things like this (especially when they are under the… impression… that it will further education). This is not necessary a privilege that only the “white” enjoy. As a comparable/correlating example – you went to a high school where the parking lot was full of high-end luxury cars that – odds are – belonged to the non-white students and odds definitely are – we were brought for them by their parents or belonged to the parents themselves. Good points with the rest – and the satire/hyperbole make the overall article relatively engaging. Perhaps another article looking deeper into some of these issues is in order?
Interesting point! While that’s true, I wanted the focus to be on how white people often dismiss their privilege. If you mesh what I discussed in my first point with their pale skin, the world is wildly advantageous to them. Asian parents are definitely likely to assist with things like that too, but we have Asian skin! I’ll write another post to expand : ) Thanks for the comment, thought-provoking for sure.
